CHATZIVARITIS ESTATE
The Chatzivaritis Estate is a family-owned boutique winery situated in the well-known PDO zone Goumenissa, in the north part of Greece. Since the very first planation, vineyards got an organic certification.
You can find there growing mostly Greek varieties of Xinomavro, Negoska, Roditis, Malagousia, Muscat and Assyrtiko. The winery was grounded in 1994 by Vagelis and Olga, for the love to each other and for their love to wine and everything around it. Today the winery is run by Chloi Chatzivaritis, their daughter.
After studying oenology in France and Portugal and having worked in various wineries in France, New Zealand, Argentina and Chile, Chloi returned to Greece with her passion for low intervention wines. Very soon after she started producing her own wines, focusing mainly on old Greek varieties, but applying different techniques that were not being used by then.
The grapes are handpicked, carefully selected, wild fermented and unfiltered. Her plan for next years is to turn in biodynamic viticulture completely.
Chloi’s wines are authentic and charismatic, just like she is. Every wine is a story for itself, intriguing, expressive, but elegant. They will guide your palate in the spheres where it has never been before. They are the mirror of every harvest, that is different from year to year, and they represent her own development as a winemaker. All her wines are stunning, but I can freely say that Chloi makes the best sparkling wines in Greece.
Chloi is one of the most loyal persons I have ever met. She is a brave woman who is smashing grapes and patriarchies and is an example that the knowledge and hard work always pay off, no matter of circumstances.
